I've been working diligently on a new series which includes large works that 'stack' so they can be exhibited on a floor in a grouping. I have made two so far and am happy with the results. Goal is 7. C6 Reduction: A method of firing stoneware where the kiln air intakes and burners are set to restrict or eliminate oxygen in the kiln such that metallic oxides convert to their reduced metallic state. These towering ceramic forms embody the power and wisdom of ancient women and a tribute to the matriarchs of ancient civilizations. Their presence is a constant reminder of the enduring strength and resilience of women throughout history. Enid: 42"H x 12"W x 8"D Enid has three sections, each with a top and bottom, created with coils and slabs of clay. They are hollow. I add texture during the leather hard stage using many different tools. I then paint with slips (colored wet clay); underglazes; and finally mason stains making sure all the crevices are filled darker. Then I wipe with water. Since there was iron oxide in the black mason stain - it turned a beautiful metallic brown color. 2 firings - Final C6 Reduction fired in Big Betty! Magdalene has two sections attached together. Also created with coils and slabs of clay; Gold Luster paint added after firings.
